The dictionaries are back!

Today I figured out how to repackage the dictionary packages so they can be used by the WeDict app which is now in App Store (I host it for the <=1.1.4 firmware).

I’ve only done one so far, but now that it’s done, I can easily crank out others. So look for many more to come.

I’m currently making just Cydia packages of them. The upcoming, in-development, Installer 4 will require a feature enhancement before I can port these packages to it.

The first one:

  • Merriam-Webster (Merriam-Webster 10th dictionary)

Update: to use these:

  1. Install WeDict from App Store, if you haven’t already.
  2. Install the add-on dictionary package.
  3. Make sure all the dictionaries are selected for use, in WeDict’s settings.
  4. Enjoy.

(If you don’t select all the installed dictionaries for use, I have noticed that WeDict will list words found in unselected dictionaries, as well as in the selected ones. Selecting a word from the list, that is in an unselected dictionary, gets you a blank page. Therefore, I recommend just selecting all installed dictionaries and avoiding this issue. If it lists the word, you can be sure to get the definition this way.)

Update: I added another:

  • C.I.D.E. (The Collaborative International Dictionary of English)

    Hi Ste,
I’ve recently got my Stardict dictionary to work on weDict from the App Store (2.0 FW).
The dictionary (actually 2 of them) is\are:
    Hebrew - English
    English - Hebrew

My question actually is, can you please host both of them (preferred as a single package) on your Cydia source for 2.0?

This would be much appreciated if you will of course.

If you are willing to do so, contact me and I’ll be more then happy to give you the files of the dictionaries.

    Thanks in Advance,
    Ben
