If you are running Installer.app 3.0 on your iPhone or iPod Touch, make sure you are running 3.0b4 or later - 3.0b3 has a nasty bug that causes some programs to not uninstall correctly.
If you are not yet running Installer.app 3.0, then I encourage you to update to it. Not only is it nicer than previous versions, but it can tell what firmware you are running and prevent you from installing software that won’t work on your firmware. Most of the apps work fine on all of the firmware revisions, but a few do not. SendSong is an example of an application whose newest version only works properly on 1.1.1. I’m holding it up as I sort out how to deliver it without whacking the SendSong 0.9 that people have running on 1.0.2, and who are not running Installer.app 3.0. I hope to have it sorted out and released later today or tomorrow - I’m just waiting on final advice from ‘LG’ at Nullriver on how to best handle it.

Many of you have written to tell me that these two iPhone packages are not uninstalling correctly. First, let me say that you are correct and I’m looking into it. Second, let me say that they *did* uninstall properly, before, as I personally tested them both, myself.
I believe, but have not confirmed yet, that it’s a bug with the latest version of Installer.app, as these two packages have not changed since they were released, but Installer.app has, and since it does the installs, updates and uninstalls, it is a prime suspect in this.
‘LG’, from Nullriver, is looking into Installer.app for me now. As soon as we figure out what’s happening and how to fix it, I’ll either update the packages to fix the problem or Installer.app will be updated, or both.
Stay tuned …
Update: I believe this is also affecting my Kb, Kb2 and SB packages. All these packages do the same thing: they make a copy of a file, as a backup, and then drop in a modified version of the file. Upon uninstall, they move the original file back into place. These all worked before and now do not. I remain convinced that it’s an Installer.app bug and await a response from ‘LG’.
Update: As I suspected, it was a bug in Installer.app and an update that fixes the issue has been released by Nullriver. Please install it. Now I need to think about how to get the original files, that were lost, back onto folk’s iPhones. I’ll probably have to update the packages tomorrow.
Update: I have released a package called “iPodFix”, in the “Tweaks (1.1.1)” category. If you were bitten by this bug, installing and removing this package will fix you up. Then update to the latest version of Installer.app, if you haven’t already.

“LG”, of Nullriver Software, just told me that he hopes to release Installer.app 3.0 shortly, perhaps as early as today. Installer.app lets you easily install native, third party software applications on your iPhone or iPod Touch. He just has one last piece to complete first. He says “The new installer is just so much better. [There's] really no point keeping people on the old one anymore.”
I have been testing the new version for a while now. New features include, but aren’t limited to:
- Redesigned UI
- Collapsed groups on the Install page
- “Recents” category on the Install page, for “Today”, “Yesterday” and “Older”
- Ability to easily add/remove Sources
- Abilty to easily install all available updates
- A “Featured” page that currently is used as an info page
- “More Info” no longer opens Safari
Update: The new version will also be able to detect the firmware your device is running, so that packagers (like myself) can make sure that apps only install where they should. -ste
Update: It’s out. Enjoy! -ste
