FAQ
- When I try to download packages, Installer.app says it can’t find the host. What do I do?
- Make sure you have Installer.app, version 3.0 (or higher) installed (not 3.0b followed by a number).
- Make sure you have “Community Sources”, version 3.4 (or higher), installed.
- Make sure you clear Installer.app’s queue, if there is anything in it.
- Refresh the Sources, in Installer.app.
- Try your download again.
- When I try to install a package, it downloads fine and then says “error in scriptcommand 1: Installapp”. What do I do?
- Follow the answer given for question #1, above.
- Where can I download the latest version of Nullriver’s Installer.app, if I need to install it manually?
- Do you write all of these applications?
- No. I didn’t write any of them. The developers provide them to me and I package them and make them available. I also test new applications, for a release or two. The reason my name shows up as the contact for so many packages is because if the developer hasn’t provided me with their contact information to use, Installer.app defaults to using the contact information for the repository, which is mine.
- When will you update the XX application?
- When I get to it. Generally, I get updates out fairly quickly. Sometimes I get behind, due to other distractions, like having to deal with moving and maintaining the repository. Sometimes, I feel a bit burnt out and just take a couple of days off. If I’m behind, I’ll get caught up as soon as I can, generally starting with the ones that have waited the longest. In any case, I won’t be rushed.
- Can you tell me when you will update the XX application?
- Why don’t you treat this like a job?
- More and more, I do. However, if people really want me to treat this as my full-time job, then there is one simple thing that needs to happen: the site needs to consistently pull in enough donations, and legitimate advertisement revenue, every day, that I can live off of it and stop looking for a job (I’m unemployed and all the money coming in is going right to things like my mortgage, utilities and food for my three cats and I). Many people have donated and I thank them from the bottom of my heart, but I can’t live off this site yet. I did some calculations and the site needs to gross $220 (USD) a day for me to quit looking for a job.
